Void labels are a familiar security staple. When removed, they instantly reveal tampering with a visible pattern or message like “VOID” or “OPENED.” Ideal for settings where labels must remain intact and secure, void labels prevent unauthorised removal or replacement, ensuring reliable protection against interference.
Now, Cab GmbH introduces an exciting advancement in its ribbon portfolio with the CR43 UV thermal transfer ribbon—a powerful tool in the fight against counterfeiting. This innovative ribbon embeds invisible security features directly into the label, only visible under UV light. Automatically transferred during printing, these hidden features make it far more challenging for counterfeiters to replicate or tamper with labels undetected. This unique combination of visibility under UV light and invisibility to the naked eye elevates tamper resistance, setting a new standard in secure labelling solutions.
Labfax is excited to announce the addition of the new Epson ColorWorks C8000 Label Printer to their expanding product offering. We paid a visit to the Hockenheimring. Since 2006, more than 100 student teams from over 20 countries annually meet in the paddock for six days to present single-seated formula-style race cars for which they had to this point spent time engineering and screwing. At the Formula Student Germany competition, in short FSG, the best overall packages consisting of design, racing performance, financial, and business planning are awarded.
Behind the scenes, there is a lot of activity, too. The Event Manager Daniel Mazur and his team commit a lot of effort and passion throughout the year to make processes at the FSG further dynamic and professional for all participants. For the 2017 event, it had been decided to simplify the volunteer identification on site. So, for the first time in the history of the event, name tags made of acetate silk were provided to attach to the workwear. As regards the marking, the cab had customer-specifically configured
Understanding the Basics:
Direct thermal and thermal transfer labels play crucial roles in industries where labeling is integral to daily operations. Let's start with the basics:
Direct Thermal Labels: These labels use heat-sensitive paper that darkens when it passes over a thermal print head. Ideal for short-term applications like shipping labels and receipts. No need for ribbons or inks, making them cost-effective and low-maintenance.
Thermal Transfer Labels: Utilise a thermal transfer process, involving a thermal ribbon to transfer ink onto the label. Known for producing high-quality, durable prints suitable for long-term use. Versatile and commonly

The arrival of the ColorWorks C3500 at Booths stores has enhanced branding and eliminated the hassle of its previous promotional messaging.
Northern supermarket chain Booths has rolled out the adoption of Epson Colorworks C3500 label printers at almost all of its 28 stores. It has used the opportunity to redesign its labels and to ensure they are more in line with the brand guidelines in terms of fonts and colours.
Natalie Zamur, Project Manager at Booths, says: “The problem we had was that our shelf edge labels didn’t display any promotional information. If a product was on price promotion or not, the label looked the same. This meant that we relied exclusively on shelf talkers and other signage to communicate to customers. This was a clunky and impractical solution as the shelf talkers pinged off constantly and were too bulky to have next to every product we had on promotion at any one time.”
The final straw came when Natalie saw a member of staff laboriously tearing

With so many full-colour inkjet labelling systems on the market, it's easy to see why users have trouble deciding which one best suits their specific requirements. Often, a lower initial purchase price becomes insignificant when ink costs to print labels turn out to be so high.
With this in mind as well as giving Colorworks partners the ability to upload a users label design to a clever calculation tool, Epson has compared ink consumption and print costs to other inkjet label printers on the market and produced a guide.

TFL France celebrate 12 months use of the Hermes C, offering automatic GHS/CLP label application onto bags and drums.
The Hermes C is the newest product in the GHS label printing range from Cab and since it’s creation TFL France have been using it in their production department to completely automate their labelling process. The labelling of both bags and drums requires the Hermes C to work in different ways and with a variety of applicator heads this has been possible. Whilst the bags can be labelled using a stroke applicator and tamp pad the drums are more complex and regulation says that each drum must have two labels applied.

Rossman in Landsberg, Germany use 5 Cab Hermes+ Label print and apply systems, labelling 18,500 boxes over 3 shifts, 24 hours a day. Prior to system installation, labels were hand applied and because of the nature of the labelling, for identification of hazaourdous materials, there was the possibility of mis-labelled products caused by operator error. The new system eliminates this while offering fast, effective labelling with over 99.9 percent accuracy.

Insights into the labeling of battery packaging
VARTA Consumer Batteries GmbH & Co. KGaA produces more than a billion round cells each year. After they got labeled, packed and palletized they are leaving Dischingen in trucks. All over the world, the battery sizes AA, AAA, C and D are used in mobile phones, cameras, flashlights, remote controls, toys and many more. As regards the labeling of the small energy carriers’ packaging the company since 2014 relies on cab tools and solutions.
Important labeling requirements
Batteries are merchandise. At their packaging the EAN128 barcode is demanded. In this, for example the product ID or a sender’s global identification number, lot resp. batch numbers, dates or numbers of quantity may be displayed. As the EAN128 is the basis for evident traceability of goods, its data structure needs to be clearly legible resp. identifiable.
Further “hard facts” in the context of VARTA
CLP is the Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures.
This Regulation aligns previous EU legislation on classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals to the GHS (Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals).
The GHS legislation is a United Nations system to identify hazardous chemicals, to effectively communicate with users these hazards through safety data sheets (SDS), standard symbols, phrases on packaging labels and to improve the safety of handling hazardous materials and its transportation.
As from June 1st 2015 the chemical labelling requirements are undergoing extensive changes, this comes from of revisions made to the worldwide GHS.
Manufacturers, importers, downstream users and distributors of chemical substances and mixtures must comply with GHS requirements, which cover all hazardous chemical substances, dilute solutions and mixtures.
GHS regulations include
The new Hermes C incorporates the Cab XC6 GHS label printer and the proven Hermes+ systems to provide fully automatic GHS label printing for the first time.
Two in-line arranged print units enable the GHS labels to be printed and applied automatically and includes all of the functionality of the XC range like ribbon save.
Ideal for label rolls up to a diameter of 300mm and a label width of up to 176mm.
Labels and ribbons suitable for the Hermes C allowing the printing of GHS labels are also manufactured and supplied by Labfax.
All applicators, assembly aids and floor stands of the Hermes+ series may be used.
