The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) in product labelling standards has now been adopted to ensure labels are produced in line with new international rules.
- GHS is a new worker safety system to provide chemical handlers with important hazard information.
- All GHS chemical manufacturers have to reclassify their chemicals to the GHS classification criteria.
How do the new GHS changes affect label printing?
Current EU symbols are mostly printed in black over an orange background, however the new regulations mean the symbol must be printed in 2 colours on a white background. Standard thermal transfer label printers are only able to print in 1 colour, meaning they are no longer suitable for chemical labelling. Additionally, each individual chemical hazard now requires a unique colour pictogram with no added or blank symbols.
The Cab XC4 and Cab XC6 two colour globally harmonised system label printers are the perfect solution for the criteria of the new classification and labelling obligations for chemicals according to GHS standards. These standards will mainly affect chemical suppliers, manufacturers, users as well as testing laboratories. This 2 colour GHS label printer makes printing the two-tone black and red caution symbols easy!
To compliment the Cab two colour label printer range Labfax manufactures PP, PE and PET labels that when printed using specialist black and resin ribbons offer a label that is completely waterproof, scratch and chemical resistant.
